Lee Roy Selmon has a tradition that blends family scholarship football and volunteer work in the community. The first time Selmon was raised by Lucious and Jessie Selmon, on the farm close to Eufala located in Oklahoma as the youngest of their nine children. He played football alongside three brothers from Oklahoma. Three of them were All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey was a starter for the entire 1973 season. Lee Roy received the Outland & Lombardi Awards for being the top lineman from the United States. The three years he was a starter Oklahoma went 32- 1-1 and also won two championships at the national level. Selmon was honored when the National Football Foundation named him an Scholar-Athlete for the 3rd time in 1975. Selmon was awarded a degree from education. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer time per week throughout his time in college. After graduating, Lee Roy settled in Tampa where he spent nine years playing for the Buccaneers. Three times, he was selected All-Pro. He began his business career. In 1988, he was an Account Relations officer at Tampa's First Florida Bank. He was also involved with these organisations: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982 the Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized him as one of Ten of America's top young males. Lee Roy weighed 256 lbs and stood at a height of 7-foot-2. When he was playing college, he was the captain of the 1975 team. In 1993, Roy was a part of at the University of South Florida's athletic department as its associate director. In 1988, he was voted into the College Football Hall of Fame. The same year, he also was a part of the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. In 1989 the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation awarded the Distinguished American Award Mr. Lucious Sr. Henry Bellmon the Governor of Oklahoma made the presentation.
